(J. Nemeth, 12/95) From California Place Names by Erwin G. Gudde, "Yankee Jims is probably the best-known surviving settlement [bearing the appellation]. It had a post office from 1852 to 1940. According to the Directory of Placer County, 1861, pp12f., the character known as "Yankee Jim" was a Sydneyite whose name was Robinson. He built a corral for stolen horses at this palce and was hanged in 1852." The envelope is addressed to Mr. Martin Tubbs.
