Tribune caption on the back of the print dated Sep. 18, 1949-- "alameda was a peninsula jutting into San Francisco Bay from the Alameda County mainland until the turn of the century when a channel was cut through from the Oakland Inner Harbor to San Leandro Bay. The completion of the tidal canal in September 1902 was the cause for much revelry in the Encianl City. This lithograph of the Bay area, made in 1888, hangs in the office of the City Clerk James P. Clark of Alameda." Photo shows a lithograph of a Bird's Eye View of Alameda which was printed in the Alameda Daily Argus. The litho shows an aerial drawing of the Bay Area with smaller drawings of buildings around the border of the litho.
