Content description:
The Tribune clipping, dated October 14, 1972, affixed to the back of the photo reads "The southern end of the Grove Shafter freeway with the Nimitz freeway at top of the photo." The handwritten notation on the back reads "Southern end of Grove-Shafter freeway halted by suit....." The southern ends of the Grove-Shafter end in stubs, with some excavated land on the far side of San Pablo Avenue, which comes in at right lower and ends at Broadway at top left. One overpass on San Pablo Ave. delineates most of the recognizable features of the freeway. Discernible buildings are: Greyhound bus terminal at center, City Hall at left upper, and beyond it the Hall of Justice complex. The Nimitz freeway runs horizontally across the top of the photo, and beyond that, the Oakland-Alameda estuary.
