The party pledged ratification of the Treaty of Versailles and supported the League of Nations. The nominee was Governor James M. Cox of Ohio and Franklin D. Roosevelt, then assistant secretary of the navy, for vice-president. The Republican nominee was Warren G. Harding, who went on to win the election.
