Physical description:
Two-pieced dress made of black silk faille. The bodice is decorated with black lace around the high collar, at the cuffs, and a panel down each side of the buttons. The buttons are covered in cord, the bodice is tucked on either side of the buttons. The cuffs are finished with a double row of white corded edging. The skirt is pleated. The garment is lined in brown cotton, and part in white with large circles. Double white silk braid edges the band at the cuff. Back waistband is covered with rayon taffeta to hold the garment together. Written in ink: "Miss Hobart" and stitched on a piece of muslin to skirt top. Front skirt is decorated with seven sets of facing knife pleats, stitched down to about 8 or 9 inches above the hem. Glazed, black cotton tapes inside the skirt were meant to hold the bustle out in the back and keep the front close to the body. The lace trimmed bodice has twenty (20) thread covered buttons and twenty button holes.
