produced by the Metropolitan Oakland Area Committee, William P. St. Sure, Chairman in 1939. It is a promotional piece for Oakland and the East Bay, primarily Alameda County. "The Metropolitan Oakland Area, Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Hayward, Oakland, Piedmont, San Leandro and the country communities of Alameda County, California, U.S.A. Treasure Island's Mainland." The cover is in full color, showing a stylized "modern" skyscraper in white with various colored airplanes flying around in a black sky. The back cover shows a full color image of Lake Merritt and the Alameda County Courthouse. The inside has many photographic images of scenes in and around Oakland, starting with the "Bridges!", "A Paradise of Beautiful Homes," "Jewel at Sunset," "Metropolitan Retreat," "Western Athens," "Paramount in Education," "Guardianship," "Year 'Round Play Makes Champions," "Spacious Living," "Pageant of the Pacific, 1939," "Scenic Drives on a Skyline," "Floral Millions for Milady!", "Vista!", "Hotels of Friendliness," "Indistrial Center of the West," "Avenues of Progress," "All Modes of Transportation," "Sunbeams Condensed," "Where Nature Yields Abundantly," "White Gold and Power," "Skyway Center of the West," "Center of Scenic California," "Beautiful Temples of Worship."
