From caption on back of photograph: "Lake Merritt's famous duck colony had a much greater population in its early days, as attested to in this picture." Thousands of ducks congegrate around the shore of Lake Merritt. There are so many ducks present that they cover up most of the ground, but scattered feed is visible in the few patches of empty ground. Many of the ducks are taking advantage of the feed and eating it. In the background more ducks float on the surface of Lake Merritt and fly towards the feeding frenzy.
