Typed on the back of the photo, "Street car strike 1919, Neg. No. 4889." Clipping attached to the back dated June 22, 1947 reads, "The first strike-bound car to leave the East Oakland barns, as shown here, ventured forth three and a half days after the strike started. Vast crowds awaited along the route and motorloads of heavily-armed, billy-swinging police served as escorts." Photo shows a street scene near the barns where the street cars were stored. One street car is leaving the barn and beginning its journey down the tracks. On the front of the car is a banner which says "The cars of this company are operated under an injunction of the Federal Court." Two autos are driving in front of the street car, one loaded with police officers. Several people are standing around watching the car leave the station. Appears to be a park across the street from the street car barn and a beautiful house or apartment building far in the background.
