A reprint, dated June 28, 1955, of an 1882 photo showing Lake Merritt looking East toward the Oakland Hills. There are a few houses on the far shore, a farm, and a windmill. The only other man-made objects are a sailboat hull on shore and a narrow wooden pier in the foreground.
