Physical Description: "Imperial Plate" collodion glass negative, 10"X13". Sub. Cat.: Transportation -- Railroads Echo City is in Utah, east of Salt Lake City where the Weber and Echol Canyons join. In 1868 and 1869 the town was the construction headquarters for Samuel B. Reed, Chief of Construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. By January 15, 1869, the tracks had reached Echol City from the East, but there were many tunnels and bridges to be completed and track to be laid down the weber Canyon before the trains could reach Promontory north of the Great Salt Lake. (This information was provided by Susan Williams, A.J. Russell's biographer.) "In 1866, Reed was promoted from survey engineer to Engineer of Construction and Superintendent of Operations."
