Clipping on the back, "July 17, 1966--Anian Pettit, who will be presented to Eastbay society at this year's Winter Ball, models gown made for her great great gradmother. Her family has given gown to museum." "June 16, 1974--Mrs. Peter Tunney of San Marino, the former Anian Pettit of Piedmont, models an 1870s bustle gown custom-made in Paris for her great-great-grandmother, Sarah (mrs. Isaac) Requa. For 45 years- from 1877, when the Requas moved into their 80-acre estate, The Highlands in Piedmont, until 1922, when she died there- Sarah Requa reigned supreme over Eastbay society. Now an Oakland Museum 'costume,' her pale blue and pink dotted taffeta gown is accented with embroidered net, ecru tape lace, pink satin rosebuds and flounces. Mrs. Tunney is the daughter of the Walter Pettits of Piedmont's Requa Place." Photo shows Pettit wearing the gown. She is holding onto the post at the base of a set of stairs, she is standing on the first step.
