Torn banner hanging across San Pablo Ave. N.E. corner San Pablo Ave. and Klinkner Ave., (59th St.) "Klinknerville" was established December 5th, 1887, changed to "Golden Gate" May 29th, 1888. Was outlying district of Oakland. February 28th, 1895. Taken into city of Oakland, February 28, 1900. Condition: good. 5" x 8". Klinkner Collection, neg. #30 - "Klinkner Hall Building. Golden Gate. ca. 1886-1893. Torn banner hanging across San Pablo Ave. located on the n/w corner of San Pablo Ave. and Klinkner Ave. (now 59th St., Emeryville). "Klinknerville" was established 12/5/1887, changed to Golden Gate 5/29/1888. Was outlying district of Oakland. Taken into the city of Oakland on 2/28/1900"(now Emeryville) History: The plates was taken by Charles S. Klinkner, Jr., son of Charles Klinkner, Sr., who founded the town. The donor is the grandson of the senior and nephew of the photographer. (G. Morgan 2002: Klinknerhall at corner of 59th & San Pablo was in what is now Oakland and not in Emeryville as previously thought.)
