This subdivision is bounded on the west by Telegraph Ave., on the north by land holdings of the State University of California and Strawberry Creek, on the east by College Ave., and on the south by Bancroft Way. Currently, the entire tract is the property of the Regents of the University of California, Berkeley. The original map is done in black ink on oiled cloth. The "Tract List" compiled by Quentin has two dates for the Hillegass Tract: 1886, and 1891. There are five original drawings which describe the same area; two are dated Sept. 1900, and three are dated Jan. 1900. The January maps reflect subdivision into small lots (which it would seem did not occur), while the September maps show large plots bearing few signs of ownership. The September maps have accession nos. h69.38.1808 and h69.38.1809. The January maps have accession nos. h69.38.1831, h69 38.1832, and h69.38.1833. It is a curiosity that the earlier maps show a greater degree of subdivision than the later maps. The area has subdivisions A-E, as opposed to A-L in record h69.38.1831. A pencilled note in the upper left corner reads: "New map traced from this map, as the distances shown on this map are correct." The new calculations are shown in red ink.
