Behind the large main podium in front are the newsbooths for the majors networks. Above these booths is the enormous convention banner, with the years "1856 -- 1956" on it, as well as the words "Peace" and "Prosperity". In the center of the banner is a cameo portrait of Eisenhower, standing to the side of Abraham Lincoln. The banner -- and the convention itself -- celebrates the centenary of the Republican Party.
