The Klan was unwelcome in other East Bay Cities. The Klan was an invited participant in the city's annual Veterans' Circus and Pageant of Progress. The Klan first brought its message of hate to California after World War I. In May 1921, local African Americans got word of the KKK's intent to organize in the East Bay.
