Named for Robert Livermore who received a grant of land in that section in 1839. LOS ANGELES IN THE YEAR 1853 Los Angeles was established in 1781, as the second of the "Pueblos" or civil settlements under Spanish rule in Alta California. It was the capital of he Southern section for a time under the Mexican rule.
