Text across the bottom reads, "Sat. and Sun. * December 6, 7 and 13, 14 * 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. / The Women's Building * 3543 18th St., San Francisco (at Valencia) / Wheelchair Accessible * Free Childcare * Call (415) 431-1180." [This popular fair began in 1976 as a small crafts show at the Old Wives' Tales feminist bookstore on Valencia Street in San Francisco. It was very popular and soon outgrew that space, so in 1981 it moved to The Women's Building and renamed the Winter Women's Art and Crafts Fair. It was later called Celebration of Craftswomen: The Women's Building Arts and Crafts Fair. In 1989 it moved to Fort Mason Center and shortened its name to Celebration of Craftswomen, and continues to benefit The Women's Building. The fair was a significant community-building project in the Bay Area, involving a standing committee that organized workshops for women artists, solicited applicants, and conducted a jury process to select participants. Up through the 1990s the event involved several hundred volunteers to provide logistical support. -LMC]
