Caption reads: "First Communication -- One of Burton Abbott's first acts yesterday was to decline to see reporters. In San Quentin such a message is sent out in writing, and this was it." The memo itself is addressed to Mr. L.S. Nelson, Associate Warden, on the subject of "The Press." The text reads: "I, Burton W. Abbott, decline to see any members of the Press this date." It is signed by Abbott, prisoner A-35539.
