Handwritten on the back, "Putting up Brick and Terra Cotta. Spring 1929." This is a photo of the new H. C. Capwell's store under construction. The brick work is all done but the terra cotta on the lower portion of the building is not finished and the cornice is unfinished. The is a wooden walkway around the building to protect pedestrians from the construction site. Signs on this walkway say, "Oakland's Largest Department Store", and "P.J. Walker Co. Builders", and "new home of The H.C. Capwell Co." Below the cornice near the top of the building some scaffolding has been built. The windows of the building do not have glass in them yet. There are some workers in the windows on the left, possibly on their lunch break. A street sign on the right reads, "Broadway". There are some automobiles parked on the right side of the building and there is a small truck driving by. There are also a lot of telephone wires in front of the building.
