The Tribune photo, dated February 18, 1941, has the following caption attached to the back: " John R. Boyson kissed his wife farewell this morning and went away to the Army as a Selective Service volunteer. He took a year's leave from his job with the telephone company, for which Mrs. Boyson also works." Mr. Boyson's left arm is around Mrs. Boyson, and his right arm holds his suitcase. He is dresed ina business suit, collar and tie; she is wearing a hat, skirt, and matching fur trimmed jacket. [Note: Volunteering through selective service probably gave Mr. Boynton his choice of branch of service (e.g. Air Corps, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, or Army) as it did for me during World War II.
