Photograph of Ralph Kroeger, husband of Iva Kroeger, defendant in the trial for the murders of Jay and Mildred Arneson. Kroeger is dressed in a light-colored jacket with dark slacks. He is talking with some gentlemen at the time of the discovery of a body in the basement of his San Francisco home. Oakland Tribune on August 21, 1962, described Kroeger as: "A slight, stolid 61-year-old laborer, the Colorado native creates an impression of placid endurance. He has expressed vague concern for his missing wife's safety in previous interviews. Brought downstairs to witness early stages of the digging, Kroeger - in light khaki jacket, plaid sport shirt and dark slacks - leaned against a wall, silent and fidgeting." Kroeger said he knew nothing about the body located in the basement of his home at 490 Ellington Avenue in San Francisco. He was nonetheless taken into custody.
