Handwritten on the back in pen, "Elmer War waves as he sits on the wing of his P-51 Mustang 1945 'Man O'War.' The Wards came up from Tustin for the show." Photo shows the man sitting on the wing and waving, a crowd of people are walking by on the far side of the plane. The P-51 Mustang was used heavily as bomber escorts for bombing runs over Berlin during World War II. The Mustang was also heavily used in the Pacific Theater. There were several versions of the plane built during the course of the war. By the end of the war almost all of the U.S. Air Force units used the Mustang. It was the standard plane used by the Air Force until the 1950s.
