A mass of spectators on the steps of a building, sidewalk and curb are (according to the notation on the back of the photo) awaiting the "Return of the 159th," soldiers, from World War I in France. The front wheel is all that can be seen of an automobile parked at the curb, at right. With the exception of one woman at front center every person in the crowd, whether man, woman or child, is wearing a hat.
