This is a pair of handmade boots by Gaza Bowen. A: Is the right boot; B: is the left boot. The tops of the boots are blue and white batik fabric, with three vertical bands of white diamonds per boot -- front, back and inside -- which are appliqued with either red, pink or rose colored circles, machine embroidered in place. Four strips of the blue and white fabric are placed in bands over the high instep of the boots. Each strip is piped with blue and white striped fabric and trimmed with machine embroidery. The boots fasten on the outside (behind a vertical band of triangles) with flat, brass hooks which fit into a long strip of couched twisted thread, creating a series of "eyes." The foot of the boot is of black leather, trimmed with bands of brick colored leather; this brick colored leather also forms the small wedge heel. The boots are lined with red fabric.
