Caption from November 7, 1955, summarized the events in the early stages of the Stephanie Bryan disappearance investigation: "May 5. David Tyree of San Pablo found the first clue, Stephanie's French book which was lying beside Franklin Canyon Road, three miles east of Highway 40. This set off a series of searches of the hills and backroads in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties." The book is "Modern French Course" written by Dondo. The photograph shows the book sealed in a plastic bag.
