Content description:
A man dressed as a policeman is wheeling a man, wearing a black felt hat and a vest, in a wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow has an iron wheel and it looks well used. The policeman is wearing a domed hat with narrow brin, a thigh level coat on which there is an eight-ponted badge, and a vest with a watch chain visible. He is also smoking a curved pipe. The photo is taken out of doors next to a stone-faced building, and the ground is paved with bricks. The back of the photo reads "Centennial," which may mean that this is a costume worn as part of a celebration of the 100th anniversary of California statehood in 1850. Another clue is the man who is in the wheelbarrow is wearing a hat that does ¤not look like anything that would have been worn in the 19th century. The notation on the back of the photo, H-P People, refers to the Tribune's alphabetic filing system for photographs of people.
