Tribune caption on the back, Dec. 27, 1964-- "In another war in another time, these cloaked killers huddled on the deck of a Navy aircraft carrier at Alameda Naval Air Station. They are Air Force P-51D 'Mustang' fighter planes of World War II, apparently mothballed but being recalled to Korea for more fighting five years later. This photo, by Tribune photographer Tommy McDonough, was banned at the time by Naval censors. This week McDonough found the old negative and printed it. Someone in the city room remarked that it resembles today's scenes at Alameda supporting the conflict in South Viet Nam. 'And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet.' (Mathew 24:06)." Photo shows the deck of a Navy aircraft carrier filled with fighters. The fighters cover the entire area of the ship's deck. All of the windows of the fighters are blacked out. A couple of crew members can be seen standing on the upper decks on the ship on the left side of the photo looking down at the planes. Another aircraft carrier is parked beside this one.
