Two elaborate but short dragons in a parade on a street in Oakland Chinatown. Notes written on back of photo: "Oakland Chinese New Year Parade." Feb 3, 1979. The photo was taken on a street in Oakland's Chinatown. In the center of the photo are two elaborately decorated dragons. The one in front is short in that there is a head, a person holding up the head and one person holding up the end of the body in his hands -- this latter person is not under the body. The head is looking down and has many details accentuated by decorative balls and fringe/fuzz around various parts of the eyes and mouth. The body appears to be in layers with fringe around the borders showing a zig zag pattern and extends the length of the body. The second dragon has its head up and its mouth open showing its upper and lower "teeth". It, too, is very elaborately decorated with fringe/fuzz accentuating various parts of the head with small balls decorating the area between the eyes. It also has a person clad in dark pants and shoes under the head. There appears to be a line of "flags" between the dragons to separage them. Behind the dragons are various buildings housing shops and restaurants. The signs of the Peking Restaurant and ___ Yet Sun Market are visible. On the right side of the photo is a pick up truck seeming to follow the first dragon. Behind the truck are two banners apparently hung from a building or on very tall poles with Chinese writing. In front of the truck is a young man in white long sleeve tee shirt and dark pants and shoes holding an American flag on a pole. In front of him is a man in white shirt, dark seater, light colored pants and dark shoes walking along side the dragon and looking into one of the buildings.
