This photograph gives me great nostalgia. This was a great driveway (it may still exist) that wen tup to the Tobin Clark mansion at San Mateo. Mrs. Tobin Clark was quite a character. She was an elderly woman who loved this large Georgian house she had, complete with barn and caretaker's house, done by an eastern architect. The house also had a lush garden. There will be pictures of the interior later. To me the house epitomized a kind of gracious wealth in a great California landscape so well that for years afterwards every once in a while I would drive in and speak to her land manager and go over the property and go up to the house just to get this wonderful feeling of a rich life in all senses of the word."
