The notation on the back of the photo reads "Looking North with houses below." This is a ground level view of the collapsed section of Interstate 80 near Pinole. Houses are below, but do not appear to be damaged. The guard rail for the southbound collapsed section is pointing skyward. Northbound automobile traffic is proceeding. A number of officials are at the north end of the chasm.
