The notation on the back of the photo indicates that the photo is taken from 5,000 feet elevation above Blue Canyon. It is taken looking east toward the summit of the Sierra Nevada. [The rounded peak an inch below the skyline is named Old Man Mountain, and the larger of the two lakes at upper left center is Fordyce Lake [JM 10/24/2000] The Southern Pacific railroad tracks parallel Highway 40, later named Interstate 80. The swath of cleared land at left lower is the right of way for overhead power lines.
