Tribune caption, Nov. 27, 1969- "BACK IN BUSINESS. Broadway, broken up by construction of BART for almost three years, is unobstructed again. Early Christmas shoppers like the young lady pictured upper left, scurry about without worrying about barricades and detours. Holiday decorations brighten up Oakland's main downtown artery, upper middle, in contrast to the uncolorful excavation pits, uppper right, that littered the streets for so long. Motorists and pedestrians travel along Broadway unhampered by noise and dust, lower picture. The worst is over." Photo is taken from the corner of 13th and Broadway. The photo shows part of Rexall Drugstore on the corner with people standing and walking on the sidewalk in front of the store. A few cars are driving up Broadway. On the opposite side of the street is De Lauer's newstand, United California Bank, and Smith's. A young woman is walking in the crosswalk across Broadway.
