Olive Garrett was married in 1922. She moved to Manila for two years, where the climate was too hot to wear silk or rayon, so she wore cotton. When she returned to Oakland, the up-keep on fancy items was more than a busy housewife wanted to bother with. If worn at all, this slip was well cared for; it is in mint condition. Mrs. Garrett was born in San Francisco, but moved to the East Bay after the Earthquake in 1906. Her family also was in Nevada City involved in mining during the nineteenth century. The donor was Mrs. Garrett's neighbor. The bright peach colored rayon slip has a small peach colored stain tape as a draw-string at the top (to adjust for fit); the hem is decorated with two skimpy, pinked flounces; the hem is machine over-cast in white thread; there is one pleat in the skirt.
