Depiction: A young man attempts to pass through a hole in a chainlink fence trying to get to People's Park. A police officer sees him and is approaching. Caption reads: Advocates of Berkeley's People's Park ostensibly observed France's Bastille Day Monday by cutting holes in the steel mesh fence surrounding the park. Here Frank Bardacke, one of the leaders in the People's Park movement stands in front of one of the holes moments before a police officer (background) chased him away. The park is being converted into a parking lot by its owners, the University of California. Fencing the area May 15 led to a bloody riot and calling of the National Guard.
