The Tribune photo, dated January 18, 1978, has the following caption on the back: "DUCK CROSSING Another distinction for Oakland, folks----the only sign designed so that ducks can read it. This warning to motorists can be seen at Lakeside Park, just before the bird sanctuary at Lake Merritt." The sign reads "SLOW" above an image of both children and a duck. Below it, the sign reads "Children & Ducks Crossing.
