At the top of the poster is a slice of watermelon with "Viva / El Cinco De Mayo!" printed in the pink part of the melon and "Estanford / 1989" printed under the rind, both in the shape of watermelon seeds. Beneath that is a list of Cinco de May o events at Stanford from April 24-June2 including music, dance, theater and poetry. [Note the use of the "Spanglish" term "Estanford" which reclaims that space in Chicano terms. Tony Burciaga was a Chicano artist and writer who helped found the Latino comedy troupe Culture Clash at the Galería de la Raza in San Francisco's Mission District in 1984.
