Doll - Guard of Tower of London, England. These dolls were made by Liberty & Co. of London, England and are commonly called "Liberty of London" dolls. The dolls are all cloth, with needle sculpted and painted faces. Clothing is sewn on and cannot be removed. The costumes are often elaborate, well designed and well executed. In 1939 Liberty of London made a collection of coronation dolls which included dolls of the Royal Family and other coronation participants.The dolls were imported into the United States by Kimport. The doll clothing has a cloth label which reads "LIBERTY MADE IN ENGLAND", as well as the Kimport cloth label which reads "KIMPORT DOLLS INDEPENDENCE, MO. THIS DOLL IS MADE IN ENGLAND". This doll is all cloth, dressed in the (wool felt) uniform of a Tower of London Guard. He is on a stand with a wooden base. The arms are felt over a wire armature. He carries a lance (?) in his right hand. The face has a center seam.
