Content description:
One of a series of 11 family snap shots made at Swanton House and the Pebble Beach area of Pescadero by the Garretson Family. This one shows seven young women in a garden, in front of two cottages at Swanton House ("Woodbine" and "Ivy"). They are crouching low behind a railing as though they want only their heads to show (similar to other "trick" shots made in the late 19th century, a la the wives of Henry VIII). Second from the left is Alice Eleanor Garretson; fourth from the left is the mother of the donor (sister of Alice) Ella Corinne Garretson.
