Lieutenant Don Scott shovels dirt in the basement of the Kroeger house in San Francisco. Two other men stand nearby, watching Scott. The Oakland Tribune on August 21, 1962, reported: "Authorities ripped away a lumber floor, a two-inch concrete slab and four feet of earth" before reaching "the head-down, crumpled body" of Jay Arneson. Lt. Scott "ordered crews to resume digging today and also asked for a microscopic examination of the home." He then jailed Ralph Kroeger, co-owner of the house in which the body was found.
