Black and white poster with a plastic textured coating on the surface contains a reproduction of a drawing. The image shows a man with his wrists in shackles. The man has a round patch or pin attached to his shirt that has a hand grasping a chain with the text, "Free the Soledad Brothers." Large text at bottom center reads, "Ruchell Magee." Small cursive script near top reads, "Ruchell / politic / Committee - for / black prisoners / (B/M/U/F/A) Black mothers United for Action / 2406 26 Ave. Oakland, Calif. / 94601 phone KE-63644 (415)." Text at center right reads, "Black Poli[clipped out of print area] / Prisoners / Will Be Set Free / Black By the / People!" "(Cinque)" printed at lower left. [Ruchell Magee was on the stand at the Marin County Courthouse on August 7, 1970 testifying on behalf of fellow prisoner James McClain. The proceedings were disrupted by armed Black Panthers trying to free McClain. who had been part of an earlier San Quentin prison riot. The judge and three prisoners were killed and many others, including Magee, were injured. Angela Davis was captured and imprisoned for having legally purchased the guns, but was later acquitted of all charges. Although no evidence linked Magee to the breakout attempt he still remains in prison. -LMC]
