On the back of the photo Oakland Tribune caption - hand written "Tunnel 4 WL 1st Sun #1358." There are two dates stamped on the back of the photograph - May 23, 1958 and May 25, 1958. A newspaper article is pasted on the back of the photograph with a stamp "TR5C May 25, 1958 and the article NEW TUNNEL - Dotted line shows location of new tunnel to be built north and parallel to Broadway Low Level tunnel connecting Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Structure will be the first section built when work on the Grove-Shafter Freeway, approved by the State Highway Commission Thursday, gets under way". The photograph shows a large white cropping from the right side to a little beyond the center and a small dotted white cropping in the center. Inside of the large white cropping is the entrance to the tunnel with cars and trucks leaving and entering the tunnel. On the far right of the photograph a man is standing and observing the flow of traffic.
