Arleigh Williams graduated from Cal in 1935, where he had been an outstanding football halfback. He taught at Richmond High and returned to Cal in 1957 as director of activities for the ASUC until his appointment in 1959 as dean of men. He succeeded Katherine Towle as dean of students when she retired in 1965.
