Content description:
Ape Guardian" (A) is a mixed media kinetic sculpture. The majority of the sculpture is made from found metal components that are aluminum and chrome. The sculpture has light and motion elements that are triggered for several seconds by a sound mechanism in the interior of the torso. When the mechanism is triggered, the eyes light up red and the mouth starts to open and close. At one point in time, an accelerator pedal in the shape of a foot (B) was used to trigger the light and movement of the sculpture. Currently, the kinetic elements are triggered by a motion sensor that is installed in the front of the sculpture's platform. The artist introduced a sound element into the piece in August 2013 by installing a Mattel® V-RROOM! toy motor in the interior. The position of the robot's arms can be changed manually.
