Below this title are two columns of text that reads: "The Cordwainer are guilty. . . .yes, said the court. The / boot and shoemakers of Philadelphia were found guilty of / conspiring (or organizing) to raise their wages. Between / 1806-1842 six such convictions were made by courts in the / major cities of the United States, all based on criminal / "conspiracy" under the English common law. Not until 1842 did a courageous judge reverse these precedents.".
