Content description:
Newspaper has a black and white image that depicts a group of people camped out on the side of a road next to a field. The newspaper headline reads: "(T)He Commerical Appeal / Memphis, Tenn., Wednesday Morning, January 11, 1939 / Evicted Sharecroppers Camp Along Highways In Missouri". Below the newspaper clipping is a printed label that reads: "Plantations of the Delta are coming under rge machine. The / sharecropper system is collapsing at its advance, and croppers / are being cut from the land. In protest, hundreds of families-- / white and black victims of its devastation--left their cabins / on January 1939 to camp along 150 miles of open road. / Highway U S 61 in southeastern Missouri. January 1939".
