A photograph of a drawing of the exterior of the Hale Brothers department store. The photo was most likely taken during the war. There is a Red Cross flag hanging on a rope above the street on the left. The Hale Brothers store is a four story building with a vertical sign on the left that says, "Hale Bros." There are large display windows all around the street floor of the building with awnings over them. In one of the windows is a child mannequin and a children's clothing display. Two pedestrians are crossing the street. Hale Bros. Department Store may be the precursor to Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Inc. which eventually bought Emporium Capwell's and was a major North American retailer. In a 1980 Carter Hawley Hale fact book, the company owned The Broadway, The Broadway-Southwest, Emporium Capwell, Thalmiers, John Wanamaker, Weinstock's, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Waldenbooks, and Contempo Casuals.
