Tribune caption on the back, Aug. 14, 1945-- "Oakland didn't wait for an official U.S. peace declaration to demonstrate jubilation over end of the war. The Tokyo report of capitulation was spark for a wild downtown celebration. Servicemen and civilians thronged Broadway, cheering, dancing, shouting throughout the night." Photo shows a huge crowd gathered on Broadway yelling and cheering. A majority of the crowd is made up of men, many of whom were sailors. They are waving their hands in the air. Further back in the crowd is a young woman sitting on the shoulders of a man waving her arms. Everyone is laughing and smiling. Across the top of the photo is written in white pen with black outline- "'It's Over!'
