This photograph shows Iva, wrapped in a blanket and placet in a flexible stretcher, about to be carted off by unidentified members of the San Francisco Sheriff's Deparment. Caption on the back of the photo reads: "Iva, under sedation, groans as she is carried away: her murder trial was recessed until Thursday." On February 20, 1963, The Oakland Tribune reported: "San Francisco Superior Judge Harry Neubarth abruptly recessed the Kroeger murdere trial today after a violent outburst by Iva that left her writhing on the floor. ... "Iva screamed, cried and finally collapsed face down after calling her husband a liar and demanding a new attorney. "She tore newspapers to shred and scattered them throughout a holding cell and, in court, dumped both defense and prosecution documents on the floor. ... "She shouted that her husband, Ralph, `Got up and simply lied' during his testimony Tuesday, then flared: `Ralph has you [Hagerty] and I got nothing.' ... "What apparently triggered the outburst by Iva was her husband's testimony Tuesday. While he spoke few words, he spoke them with telling impact. What he said was that Iva had bilked him out of $6000, forced him to perform menial chores, and involved him in a double murder case he knows nothing about...
