First photo in a series of four photos which are connected together with masking tape. Three young men are struggling(?) over a wooden bench. They are positioned at the top of some concrete steps outside of UC Berkeley's Sproul Hall. An older man with glasses stands behind them. In the foreground, another young man is running up the stairs towards the fray. Photo is taken during an anti-war protest at UC Berkeley campus. In April 1970, UC Berkeley students, as well as non-students, staged anti-war demonstrations over the course of several days. In order to show their oppostion to the Vietnam war and the on-campus ROTC presence, protesters marched on California Hall, the location of the chancellor's office, and Callaghan Hall, location of the Naval ROTC's headquarters. Violence, including rock-throwing, erupted and police used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
