Content description:
Poster has a brown and white drawing of a man holding a flaming torch walking away from a large white mansion that is on fire. The man has a beard and wide eyes. [This illustration of abolitionist activist John Brown was originally commissioned as a cover by Joe Blum, editor of the Bay Area underground newspaper The Movement. It was later reproduced as a poster. He also drew a similar one of Nat Turner. -LMC]. [Nat Turner led a slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831. The failed revolt spurred a vicious backlash. Original illustration appeared in the 1965 SNCC freedom primer "Negroes in American History." In March 1969 it was a full page in The Movement newspaper; December of that year it was produced as a poster for $1 ($.75 for Movement subscribers). -LMC]
